multilevel surgery in patients with cerebral palsy

Recent medical evidence recommends that all deformities in patients with cerebral palsy are simultaneously corrected during one operation. This method has many long-term benefits when compared to multiple operations correcting each deformity separately. All deformities are corrected in a single session, which includes bony and soft tissue procedures, using minimally invasive techniques and stable fixation allowing early mobilisation. Pre-operatively, all patients are assessed jointly with their physiotherapists and if possible, depending on the child’s mobility, gait analysis is performed. Post-operatively a patient-specific targeted rehabilitation programme is prescribed.
