complex fractures and fracture non-unions
Dr Zenios has extensively used circular external fixators such as the Ilizarov and Taylor Spatial frame for the treatment of complex fractures and fracture non-unions. Circular external fixators are connected to bone using smooth wires or screws, away from the fracture site. They allow the surgeon to reduce and manipulate the fracture externally avoiding the need to open and devascularise the fracture. It is ideal for complex fractures such as displaced intra-articular and comminuted (multiple pieces) fractures, open fractures, fractures with significant soft tissue injury and fracture non-unions.
