Idiopathic scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine of unknown aetiology which most commonly presents during puberty. It is much more common in girls compared to boys. Scoliosis is diagnosed with specific X-rays which allow the measurement of a specific angle (Cobb’s angle). Scoliosis is diagnosed when Cobb’s angle is more than 10 degrees. Scientific evidence suggests that the use of a brace in immature patients with a scoliosis of more than 25 degrees can prevent deformity deterioration and the need for surgical intervention.
At our clinic we offer a screening programme in an attempt to reduce the need for surgical intervention.
The pictures below shows a patient of Dr. Zenios with more than 25 degrees of scoliosis (Cobb's angle). Our spinal brace for idiopathic scoliosis was applied with excellent results.
